The Swayback is our Indie Band of The Week for so many reasons, including their critically acclaimed album, but mostly because we dig their funky sound and live shows.
The Denver, CO based quartet The Swayback, comprised of Eric Halborg (Bass/Vox), William Murphy (Guitar), Adam Tymn (Guitar) and Carl Sorensen (Drums) is our Indie Band of The Week for a myriad of reasons, but primarily because we dig their funky sound and their live shows are other-worldly! If you’re not compelled to dance your ass off to The Swayback, then you should probably go to the hospital because you are either DEAD or DEAF!
The Swayback recorded their latest full-length album Double Four Time with legendary British producer Andy Johns (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin), which has brought critical acclaim from some pretty heavy-hitting publications (including the predecessor to RockRevolt and yes, we loved them too):
“Sinister and seductive, the Swayback’s sound – Eric Halborg’s throbbing bass and vampiric croon, Martijn Bolster’s taut rhythms, the brooding guitar of William Murphy-recalls the Velvet Underground if they were forced to share a jail cell with a codeine-addled Danzig and fed a steady diet of Factory Record remixes.”
“Rock music is a lot like a cup of coffee: Some like it as strong as The Stooges, or dark like Joy Division. The Swayback takes it both ways-usually at the same time.”
“Coming out of Denver The Swayback is a scene unto itself. The band loves to spike its ’60s-style guitar rave-ups with ’70s stoner rock and ’80s Brit pop”
Don’t believe the reviewer bullshit above or us? Fine…give Double Four Time a listen in it’s entirety here! Decide for yourself and just to save you some time here’s the link to buy it! Go ahead and click on the first song. We love to be right!
Their notoriously raucous live performances have led them to share the stage with such diverse bands as: Gang of Four, Girls, The Raveonettes, Dead Meadow, Dum Dum Girls, Portugal. The Man, Akron/Family, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Swervedriver, Hold Steady, Cage The Elephant, and Place to Bury Strangers.
The Swayback will be at The Bluebird Theater in Denver December 30th playing with The Black Angels along with Hearts In Space. They will be announcing their tour schedule for 2013 soon, so stay connected at the links below and check this band out if you’re lucky enough for them to come to your town!
