LIVE PICS: Powerman 5000 and Everybody Panic!

2016-PM5K-010

Everybody Panic! opened the show with their power packing four piece made up of Pat on bass, Provo (previously of area legends Skinlab & Rickets) on guitar, Ty (Life & Death Kimonos & Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt) on vocals, and Levi (formerly of local band Anti-mortem) behind the drums. The guys were able to bring excellence back to their hometown crowd after recently signing with CaviGold Records and relocating to Seattle, WA to work on their album. Frontman, Ty, expressed the band’s love for their Oklahoma City fans several times, once even stating, “If it weren’t for all of you, there would be none of this!” The band has a stage presence and energy that radiates light and positivity.

Everybody Panic! is currently on tour with Hed PE and Powerman 5000 in support of their EP, Attack, containing six full length tracks, including their new single, “No One Gets Out Alive”. Hear it here, then make sure to call your local radio station to request and spread the panic!

Set highlights included “When It All Burns” and my personal favorite, “Such A Waste”; you can see the super hot video for “Such A Waste” here. Be careful, it’s NSFW (boobs), and you can thank me later. Everybody Panic! brought a great sound and was able to achieve a level of enlightened and uplifting vibe for their “Oklahomies” through their powerful energy, music, and lyrics. I foresee great things to come from these guys, so keep your eyes on them!

Hed PE (Planet Earth) was up next with their special blend of head bobbin’, feel good rock/ rasta/ punk. Personal highlights were a reggae version of the group’s hit, “Killin Time” (much more of “chill out and have a snack” version, juxtaposed to the “get up and thrash” original).  Also included in the set, the songs “Bartender” and “Waiting to Die” off of their 2000 album Broke. Hed PE always delivers that signature rasta, irie vibe that makes a smile contagious and the body sway to the groove. Ty from Everybody Panic! joined Hed PE on stage for a fun duo. Hed PE frontman, Jared Gomes, Major Trauma (drums), Gregzilla (guitar), and Kurt “Kid Bass” (bass), hung out, signed shirts, and took pictures with fans at the merch booth after their set.

Powerman 5000 closed out the night with Spider One (Vocals), Ty Oliver (Guitar), Nick Quijano (Guitar), Murv Douglas (bass), and  Dj Rattan (Drums) . The band brought their unique “Hi Fi, Sci Fi Electro Metal” complete with guitar lasers and alien wear. Playing notable songs like “Bombshell” off of their 2001 album Anyone for Doomsday? and “When Worlds Collide” of off the 1999 album Tonight the Stars Revolt!. Personal highlight of the set was their David Bowie cover tribute/ intro of “Space Oddity” before blasting straight into “When Worlds Collide”. A few of my personal favorite trivia facts regarding PM5K: Being a 90’s youth and having a love for all things Sheri Moon Zombie, frontman Spider One, once made a guest appearance on the original Beverly Hills 90210 (like back when David and Donna were still a “thing”), and the story behind that is pretty golden (Jason Preistley, being a fan of PM5K, called Spider One to appear in an episode). Also, Spider One is the younger brother of legendary music badass, Rob Zombie. Powerman 5000 has certainly carved a place of their own since forming in 1991. With 9 albums and a slew of soundtrack and video game contributions, PM5K has proven they’re here for the long haul.

Together, this trio of bands brought incredible energy to the Diamond Ballroom. Special thanks to TLP Entertainment, OKC for bringing this one in!
