Raw, passionate, sexy, freaky, otherworldly- all great adjectives to describe an IAMX performance. An incredible artistic endeavor, IAMX is a band that turns melody into a sensory experience- from the unique visual performance, to the powerful beats, to the intellectual commentary each song presents. Embarking on their Metanoia tour (in support of the new album), IAMX brought their all to the historic Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.
IAMX is a project born from the mind of Chris Corner.
“It’s my way of being able to connect with the world, to pour my heart out and dance at the same time. It’s also an excuse for me to play with who I am, to explore certain parts of my personality that I don’t get to explore in everyday life.”
Metanoia has been regarded by the mastermind as a deeply personal and expressive album, and seeing it come to life on stage is a phenomenal experience for all in attendance. The show date perfectly corresponded with the Yahoo Music premier of the “Oh Cruel Darkness Embrace Me” music video, which can be seen here.
The Los Angeles show packed the house to the brim, with fans eagerly awaiting the performance long before doors opened. The elegant, traditional architecture of the venue set a perfect contrast to the modern, edgy performance of the band. Four large screens graced the stage with images complimenting each song. The show opened with the infamous “I Come with Knives”, and continued forth with music from the most recent album, as well as more fan-favorites. Intermission made way for a brilliant encore featuring additional songs.
Alongside Chris Corner, IAMX’s current lineup features the talents of remarkable musicians Janine Gezang, Sammi Doll, and Jon Siren. Each member devised their own stage persona, adorned with costumes and theatrical makeup, and meshed together perfectly. The four brought intense passion and fervor to the stage, with great interaction amongst each other and the crowd below. Each and every audience member found themselves dancing, singing, and cheering; allowing themselves to escape from reality and step into the band’s world.
