Opening the show was Troglodyte out of Independence, MO. The masked men of mayhem kicked off a night of in your face, balls to the wall metal. It was nice to see a good size crowd up front and in to the opening band. They fed off the vibe of the crowd and delivered a beast of a performance.

Up next were the men from Detroit, MI, Battlecross. Battlecross hit the stage with their guitar driven madness. From the jump Kyle “Gumby” Gunther had the crowd eating from his hands. After watching the set for just a few minutes my neck was hurting from the flying manes that were on display, not only on stage but in the crowd. The mass were up front and present for every song Battlecross offered including “Spoiled” which Kyle Gunter informed us was about jacking off to the internet. I highly suggest that if you are planning on attending any of the GWAR shows on this tour, do not miss Battlecross. You will be sorry you did.

As the Butcher Babies, hailing from L.A. were preparing to take over the stage. I was really looking forward to seeing them live and in a smaller more intimate venue. Not just because I was going to be closer to Heidi and Carla but because I had heard a lot of mixed comments about the band. I had heard everything from they are kick ass to they are two pretty faces surrounded by talented musicians. Well let me tell you. I learned 2 things last night. 1. Do not try and take notes on the floor during a Butcher Babies set and 2. Anyone who thinks they are just pretty faces are fucking nuts. Those ladies throw down harder and better than many a band I have seen. And god yes they are surrounded by talented musicians. From start to finish Butcher Babies owned the crowd. After their set Heidi and Carla headed to the merch both and took photos and signed everything laid in front of them. I also had the chance to meet and talk with drummer Chris Warner as he was stowing away his gear. He expressed his graciousness for everyone that came out and was looking forward to the rest of the tour and heading to Tulsa the next night. People let me tell you this is a tour you need to make sure you take your ass out to and support these bands.
