Remember those days when you had a favorite album and you loved every song? And you could hear it over and over again? Yea, well those days are here again thanks to THE BATTERY ELECTRIC’s The Heart and the Thrill.

Yep, that’s right: FIVE out of FIVE SKULLS. THE BATTERY ELECTRIC’s The Heart and the Thrill is the unofficial BEST ALBUM OF SUMMER 2015. Get your copy here!

THE BATTERY ELECTRIC started out as a power trio from Asbury Park, New Jersey featuring Ron Santee – Lead Vocals/Drums, Brent Bergholm – Lead Guitar, and Alex Rosen – Bass Guitar.  Recently, the band added Kevin “Danger” Troeller on drums so lead singer (and original drummer) Ron Santee can interact more with the audience while touring. Their latest and second studio effort The Heart and the Thrill includes 14 original tracks of high energy, power pop punk rock.  These guys formed in 2012 with a vision to create “back to basics” rock n roll with punk, soul, garage and classic rock influences.

On the east coast THE BATTERY ELECTRIC is accumulating a tremendous following.  They sold out shows on their 3 week tour of middle states and Canada also very recently in Raleigh, Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Hoboken, and Asbury Park.  I’m telling you what, this band is hitting it!

The tracks on the album vary in composition with tantalizing intros and outros, raunchy riffs and the constant high energy.  All in all, THE BATTERY ELECTRIC’s The Heart and the Thrill is fun. Brent Bergholm on lead guitar plays a clean, straightforward, in-your-face, high octane guitar while Alex Rosen’s bass lays down the groove.  Brent explains his rig is simple consisting of an Orange amp and an octave pedal to create that clean sound which he says is influenced by AC/DC.  Overall their sound has an obvious influence of the AC/DC, the Buzzcocks, the Stooges, the Ramones and the New York Dolls. All songs feature soulful, punk-angst vocals by Ron Santee with fantastically edgy, at times sarcastic and inventive lyrics.

My love story obsession with THE BATTERY ELECTRIC’s The Heart and the Thrill LP happened like this: first, I got addicted the surf rock guitar in ‘Crown Royal’ and ‘Lauren’, and then the fuzz guitar in ‘Hungry’, ‘Tight Lip’ and ‘Almighty Deceiver’.  ‘Get Me Outta Here’ has a southern feel featuring Brent’s subtle, clean slide guitar, and ‘Does He Love You’ has that classic rock n’ roll riff. The track ‘Snowed In’ has the heaviest AC/DC influence musically of all, and with a message to call for revolution. Its black satire message is masked in the presentation: the lyrics talk about all those current conspiracy theories regarding the government control of your rights, the global reformation prison and the looming New World Order whereas the performance makes it sound like a fun party song.  ‘Dark Days are Gone’ and title track ‘The Heart and the Thrill’ have that throwback the Ramones and the New York Dolls punk rock sound. Then I watched the videos for ‘Heathen’ and ‘Dead Man’s Trunk’, and I fell in love two more times with the hard driving AC/DC rock beat.  While scouring YouTube for more videos due to my uncontrollable compulsion to hear more, I found an unofficial video of ‘Ovulator’ which has a very straightforward punk intro and arrangement reminiscent of the Ramones.  ‘Key Party’ is my party anthem for the summer because it’s so fun to sing along to! Since I was given this album, in my house THE BATTERY ELECTRIC’s The Heart and the Thrill has been in power rotation.   Seriously, I could go on, but it’s better if you just listen for yourself!
