Sunflower Dead released their sophomore album “It’s Time to Get Weird” last October and is currently opening the Hellpop tour for Hellyeah and In This Moment.

From Long Beach, California and formed by members: Michael Del Pizzo – (Vocals, Accordion, Piano), Jaboo from Two Hit Creeper – (Lead Guitar),  Jamie Teissere of Droid – (Guitar), Leighton “Lats” Kearns of Memento – (Bass),  and In This Moment touring drummer Jimmy Schultz – (Drums), “It’s Time to Get Weird” was released by Bloody Bat Records and produced by Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Slipknot, Godsmack) and Mikey Doling (Gemini Syndrome).

Boasting 13 tracks and a guest vocal appearance by Jonathan Davis of Korn, the album is composed of both, melodic and heavy riffs and lyrics which take you on a journey through the ebb and flow of life. Using anthems created out of the depths of chaos and tragedy, being beautifully delivered with the passion and empathy of having lived through darkness and coming out on the other side. You can make out elements of both rage and sorrow, beauty and struggle. Upon first glance of the cover art, it’s hard to miss the similarities and nod to the KISS cover art from their  “Rock & Roll Over” album and teamed with full make-up and a theatrical back story of the “Sunflower Dead,” one would assume that this is a band heavily influenced by the classic rock legends.

Their sound could be described as a radio friendly meld of horrorcore, modern hard rock and a different sort of nu-alternative/ electro metal. Notably, their self- titled first album was produced by Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory)  and ranked “Album of the Week” by Revolver magazine in August of 2012. If you dig the sounds of Powerman 5000, Hed PE, or Dope, you’re sure to appreciate Sunflower Dead and if you’re a fan of HIM you should definitely check out the track Dance with Death, which sounds straight outta the mind of Ville Valo.

You can download the album from iTunes here. Or see the remaining tour dates here.

Here’s a little sample to feast your eyes & ears upon, a super rad, animated video of the song “It’s Time to Get Weird” featuring Jonathan Davis from Korn. Enjoy!

Personal stand outs/ suggested tracks from the album are the above titled track “It’s Time to Get Weird” with Jonathan Davis of Korn (because if we’re being honest, pretty much everything Jonathan Davis touches is gold), and the tracks: “My Mother Mortis” and “The Rain”.

Go pick up the album from iTunes and don’t forget to catch Sunflower Dead live when they roll through your area! Have you seen them live? Write your own review and let us know what you thought in the comments section below!
