I will not bow I know you have an upcoming cruise with the
Axes and Anchors tour, where you are headlin-
ing shows and conducting workshops. I know
you have a fear of flying, so how to you feel
about traveling and touring on a cruise ship?
Well I’ve never been on a cruise either, so I
am really looking forward to seeing how it
goes. (laughs) I tour a lot on my tour bus, and
going down the road on the bus, it can be a
little bumpy and rough but I think I’ll be all
right with it. And I’m looking forward to it.
I’m a little nervous, but at the same time, I’m
excited.
What can fans expect from that kind of unique
experience with you and the band?
Well, I think we’re performing two nights,
and then we’re doing some workshop things,
sort of like guitar lesson and drum lesson
type things. The rest of the time, we’ll just be
hanging out.
What a neat experience for the fans. So, how
do you balance it all, being a rockstar and a
husband and family man?
(chuckles) Well, I don’t consider myself to be
a rock star. I consider myself to be a successful
musician or professional musician. I don’t get
that whole rock star bull crap, lame lifestyle, so
I’m always very business and family oriented.
I take everything I do very seriously, and I’m
very calculating in the things that I do to
make sure that I’m making the best decisions.
(laughs) I’m trying to ensure success for
everyone.
I understand. So, how do you balance that life-
style then of being a successful musician, fa-
ther, and husband? It can’t be easy.
Well, I don’t drink. I don’t do any drugs. It’s
just like any other job, except I have to travel
to do it, and I love what I do. My family loves
what I do, so it’s really like anything else, I
think. I just travel a lot.
What’s it like to tour with your family?
It’s great; I love being around everybody, and I
love seeing everybody every day. Even at times
when my schedule is busy, I still find time to
spend with my wife. It’s great being able to see
everybody, but when they’re not around, it’s a
lot less stressful because I don’t have to worry
about the baby, I don’t have to worry about
being on the bus, and I don’t have to worry
about whether everybody is okay. There are
pros and cons to both.
