The band seems intent on challenging
people to actually think and to invest a fair
amount of time in exploring the depths of
their music. Oh the horror.
I caught up with the members of 3Teeth
backstage in Charlotte minutes after they
finished their set opening up for both
Primus and Tool to discuss the current
tour, their music and what the immediate
future holds for the band.
Tool have been known to bring acts on tour
with them that aren’t exactly mainstream
or that well known by the masses. At
times audience reaction to these atypical
tour openers has been quite positive, such
as when extreme metal act Meshuggah set
the table for the band on a leg of Tool’s
Lateralus Tour back in 2001.
Other acts have received much less love
from Tool’s fans, just ask Faith No More
front man Mike Patton. One of Patton’s
side projects, Tomahawk, served as
support for part of Tool’s initial Lateralus
Tour as well.
Unlike Meshuggah, however, Tomahawk
was repeatedly booed with Patton himself
often engaging in shouting matches with
various audience members. Tough crowd.
