Ex-frontman Scott Weiland is being sued by his former band mates of Stone Temple Pilots, who want to strip Weiland of his rights to use the group’s name or songs. The lawsuit accuses Weiland of misusing the band’s name and credibility to further his solo career.
The suit also states that when they were still together, Weiland was constantly late for shows, and resulted in significant opportunities lost.Â
Weiland first heard he was kicked out of Stone Temple Pilots in February, after first hearing about it in a statement released to the media.
The lawsuit also claims that Weiland has been using a lawyer to interfere with the airplay of the group’s new single “Out of Time”.
“Enough is enough,” the band’s lawsuit states. “Without relief from the court, Weiland will continue violating STP’s rights, misappropriating STP assets and interfering with the band’s livelihood.”
The band members also claimed Weiland’s history of addiction caused major problems when they were still playing together, and when he showed up to concerts his performance was poor.Â
The rights to the name Stone Temple Pilot as well as their songs are copyrighted and trademarked and the rights of the current band members, according to the suit. They want the courts to block him from using the band’s hits at his solo shows, or even calling himself a former member of the band.
The suit also claims the band members agreed first in 1996 and then in 2010 that no former member can use the band’s name.
Weiland hinted at getting lawyers involved in his initial outing from the band, but maybe he’s waiting for some dogs to find them tomorrow or something.
