The Granada gets a visit from Down Under

On September 11, 2016, a day that will forever be remembered by everyone around the world due to the most horrifying attack on American soil, the good people of Lawrence, Kansas, were able to use the power of music to get all their angers and frustrations out. The Amity Affliction, a metal core band from the land down under, stopped by the Granada on their This Could Be Heartbreak tour. As we were pulling up to the venue, I looked over to John, our trusty photographer extraordinaire, and said, “Damn this place is going to be packed tonight.” From what we could see, there was a line all the way down the block. As we got to the venue we could see another line going the opposite direction of VIP ticket holders waiting to get in as well. As we entered the Granada, the place seemed very smoky through all the lights, but no, not sure if it was the humidity mixed with the cool weather and all the body heat, but what I thought was smoke was actually moisture. Everything in that building was wet, from top to bottom; it was crazy.

When The Amity Affliction took to the stage nothing else mattered to the crowd of varied ages from 13 to 40. As they started off the set with “I Bring The Weather With Me” everyone was off and running, or should I say diving. Calamity ensued as crowed surfers were seen everywhere, and if you have ever been to the Granada it is not a big place, and there was no pit between the stage, and the crowd so what do you do when you get to the stage? You run and dive right back in to the crowd. It was such an awesome site to see the capacity crowd just eating up everything they had to offer. The dual vocal styles of Ahren Stringer and Joel Birch are such a wonderful complement to each other as they pounded out hits like “All Fucked Up” and “Don’t Lean on Me” before closing out the night with “This Could Be Heartbreak”. There is still plenty of time to catch The Amity Affliction out on tour, and I suggest that you do.
