It’s been four years since Green Day released a studio album. In 2012 the band released three, Uno!, Dos!, and Tre!. In 2015 the Demolicious compilation album, consisting of demo version of the songs from Uno!, Dos!, and Tre!,  was released. Now Green day is back with a brand new album, Radio Revolution.

green-day-14 LIVE 2016

To celebrate the release, the band performed songs from the album live across the country. With a stop in New York City, Rock Revolt Magazine got to experience the show first hand. With an overly sold out crowd and bodies compacted into one another, the night was bound to be a ride.

When arriving at Webster Hall, I was greeted with a large amount of security where I was searched and asked to leave all bags larger than a small purse outside of the venue. I then could go upstairs and get situated for the show. With no opening band the excitement was only heightened. The only opener was someone dressed as a large rabbit running across the stage to get the crowd hyped up on adrenaline even more. The venue was packed with everyone from ages sixteen to over sixty and when the band hit the stage around 7:30pm everyone went wild.

They started tgreen-day-8 LIVE 2016he night off with “Know Your Enemy” from the 2009 album, 21st Century Breakdown. In the first couple of songs there were crowd surfers and lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong even pulled a crowd surfing fan onto the stage. After hugs were given Armstrong asked the fan if she could stage dive into the crowd. Though there was a look of nervousness on her face, she accomplished the task with grace. From there on the night kept up the energy and never missed a beat.

Throughout the night, Green Day performed songs off of almost every album including hits like “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Basket Case,” “King for a Day,” and “Minority.” Some of the songs performed off of Revolution Radio include “Bang Bang,” “Still Breathing,” and the title song “Revolution Radio.” There was even a mashup cover of Shout” by the Isley Brothers, the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” and The Beatles’ “Hey Jude.”

Throughout the night, the audience was jumping, screaming, and sweating profusely. But it was all completely worth it to see the legendary band in person. When it came close to the end, the fans demanded an encore. We were lucky enough to get two. One encore consisted of an acoustic set by Armstrong where he performed “Ordinary World” from the new Radio Revolution album and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”from Nimrod. The other encore consisted of two Green Day’s most infamous songs, the title song from American Idiot and “Jesus of Suburbia” also from American Idiot.
