As if John Malkovich with vampire teeth isn’t scary enough, wait until you get a load of his newest project! We actually dig John Malkovich and his ability to delight and creep up out in equal doses throughout his 30 year stellar career as a screen and stage actor/director. Now, the man who made us all go inside his head (Being John Malkovich), is taking us with him down a dark and trippy electro-funk groove hole of “Whoa…what the fuck is this?” It’s ok. We kind of enjoyed the ride for what it is.
And what IT IS is the first song off of Malkovich’s new collaborative album, Like A Puppet Show, which will be available on vinyl-only, with a release slated for fall’s Record Store Day on November 27, Black Friday.
The track, “Cryolife 7:14 a.m.” features Malkovich reciting Plato’s Allegory Of The Cave, with Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon providing the ambient music which is worthy of a quaalude-tripping flashback to Spring Break 1985. Now, if we only had some quaaludes….

Other featured artists run the gamut from the Electro-Kraftwerkian sounds of OMD, to the orchestral Celtic breeze of The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan, skipping into the rock and roll humor of Dweezil Zappa, driving into the experimental electronics of Young The Giant, Efterklang, The Dandy Warhols and The Cars’ Ric Ocasek, through the epic gangsta rap of Blondie’s Chris Stein, the haunting beauty of Placebo, the classical piano of Harry Waters [son of Roger Waters], and resting with experimental ambience from Eric Alexandrakis.
The vinyl only release features photographs of Malkovich by Sandro, and will be out on their Cryogenia π label on Record Store Day, November 27.
The trio will mark the occasion with a signing event at the legendary Music Millennium in Portland, Oregon beginning at 3:00PM and lasting until 5:00PM.
