What a treat, what a TREAT! There are some things we look forward to putting out there and this interview was as true pleasure to assemble. You’ve seen him in MANY different TV shows over the last couple of years, but as of last year, you’ve seen his face in a fascinating movie about a possible future in which people limit their crimes for a 12 hour period once a year, called The Purge. As the Bloody Stranger, we saw him, feared him, pitied him, and then cheered for him. He’s coming back this summer for another “purging” in The Purge: Anarchy. He is none other than Edwin Hodge.
Our lovely Horror Lovely, Sarah Church, the ultimate horror fan, has helped us to once again stay abreast of all things horror, and bring forth some new horror along the way. Check out the Sarah Church inspired interview with Edwin Hodge!
The movie is much more than just a thriller/terror flick. It has a message that, at least for us, made us think about man’s inhumanity to man. I’m sure everyone that sees it walks away with something different. What do you feel the intended message was?
The film in my opinion intends to question one’s morality. In today’s society, it’s easy to turn your head to those who need help and at the same time it’s easier to be selfless. We need to get back to a point where “Humanity” stands for something. Greed, ignorance, and violence seem to rule the world these days. Why not question it? Why not challenge a civilization to be and do better? You can’t understand if you don’t get involved or if you haven’t experienced ones misfortunes. What’s happens when the 1% becomes the victims? I’m sure it’s a concept they wouldn’t even entertain.
Did you learn something different just by going through the process of starring in the film?
Every experience is a chance to learn something new. I simply wanted to enhance my ability to relate with the audience. A lot of my moments were told through my eyes and emotions rather than verbally expressing them which was somewhat hard, but when you’re surrounded by the type of cast and crew I had the pleasure to work with, my job becomes easy.
If you could see into the future, would something like this be possible? Could society stray away so far from humanity, or do you think we are already there?
Anything can happen and this could potentially be a real situation. If you take a look at a couple of recent events over the last two years, it’s already happening. It just hasn’t gotten violent yet. I would hate to see this become a reality, but I’m not going to be ignorant to the fact that there are a lot of upset people who feel they need some type of justice.
The Purge: Anarchy is rumored to be coming out this summer. You resume the role of the Bloody Stranger. Will we finally learn more about who the stranger is? Will we get a name?
I’m actually not at liberty to say. I can say that fans of the first film will equally enjoy the sequel. The creators are being very strategic in how they want the story lines to play out.

What can we learn in The Purge: Anarchy that we didn’t know from The Purge?
I would just be giving away secrets if I answer this question. I will say that they have expanded the environment to bring the audience into a world that is definitely less intimate than the first.
Let’s talk about you. How did you get into acting? Was this a lifelong dream to pursue a career as an actor?
I started my career when I was three. It didn’t become a career choice until I was nineteen and really wanted to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. It’s definitely a passion of mine and I’m lucky to call it my job. I still treat my career as if it were like any of my other hobbies. I want to reach my personal best and then exceed it!
We see that you’ve played various parts in various TV shows. Do you prefer television to film, and why?
They both have something equally great to offer in my opinion. I love television shows because they allow me to interact with an audience on a weekly basis. It’s fun when you know your fans are growing with your character. Films offer a lot of excitement as well. I like being able to take on two or three different characters in a year. It helps me to accentuate my talents as well as showing a sense of diversity as an artist.
What else in on your plate? Beyond The Purge: Anarchy, where else should we be keeping our eyes open for you?
This summer you can also catch me in “As Above So Below” and I’m currently filming a pilot called Clementine. Hopefully I’ll have some more good news for you soon!
