INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: VENDETTA RED

Vendetta Red - IBOTW - Indie Band of the Week - BannerSeattle’s very own Vendetta Red have returned, and boy are they back packing a powerful punch! After having seemingly disappeared into thin air for five years, a gag text spurred the foursome back into action back in 2011…fast forward to 2015, and they are still out there, booking shows, and resurrecting the sweet Vendetta Red Seattle sound we love, which is why we are most excited to have caught up with Zach Davidson, lead vocalist of the one and only Vendetta Red, this week’s RockRevolt Indie Band of the Week!

So Vendetta Red. Lots of history there. Before getting into the past, let’s focus on now. Tell me about the Vendetta Red of today. From the perspective of a person who has never heard you, who are you and why should we listen?

Ok so Vendetta Red makes incredible albums that you should listen to because if you don’t we will put this cute, cuddly, little baby bunny in a blender.

SAVE THE BUNNY SAVE THE BUNNY! You are out there playing again. What are your show/touring goals?

Our goals are to make a million dollars and snort cocaine off of strippers.

Very classy! Do you have any plans of putting out a new Vendetta Red album?

We’ll put out but only if you promise to take us home after.

This I can do, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll respect you in the morning. What songs are you currently bringing forth in your shows?

We bring forth the almighty thrash that includes our most cheerful and upbeat songs like “Run for your fucking life”, “The great castration”, and “Vendetta Red cried rape on their date with destiny.”

Classics all the way around! Let’s get into your past now. Tell me about the breakup. What happened there? From my research, you all didn’t talk for eight years.

Oh shit do I have to be serious now? Ok I broke up the band because I was depressed and I felt like a complete failure and that nobody gave a shit about my stupid little songs. I had been used to members coming in and out for the entire duration of the band so it really didn’t have anything to do with the personnel.

Tell me how you got back together. Rumor has that it was a gag/prank tweet from a fan that spurred it.

Yes that’s correct. When fans want you to play, they will fucking make you play. These kids started tweeting about going to our show and I asked Leif if he knew anything about it he said no and then we thought it would be really fun to scream those songs in people’s faces again.

Were all the original members back together for the reunion show? (if not, why?)

No because fuck em that’s why.

Eloquent and classy answer. What is appreciably different between the old Vendetta Red and the Vendetta Red from today?

Well the Vendetta Red of today is composed of the best players in Seattle as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been playing with Burke fucking Thomas for 15 years now and he just keeps getting better. We are just damn good live.

What were some of the highlights for Vendetta Red and what are the expectations from the band going forward?

Highlights. Well, the women, the drugs, the hard drugs, the boys, the hard boys, and the women drugs.

Sounds like party made in heaven. We have “Close to Me” for download here for our listeners. Tell us about this song. When was it written, produced, etc. etc.

I wrote “Close to Me” from the perspective of an obsessive psychotic intent on possessing a woman and making her love him, even though he repulses her. Written in 2011 produced by the incomparably talented Mister Terry Date.

He certainly is a national treasure. What is Vendetta Red defining “success” as today?

Defining success by copying and pasting from dictionary.com noun 1. the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals. But seriously it’s when you achieve what you set out to achieve and I’m still reaching for success in many many ways.

If you could go back in time, knowing then what you know now, what would you have told the yourself then?

I would tell myself to lighten up a bit, take more time off and I would try to teach myself some music business education.
