INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: SPENCE

Spence first got on our radar a little over a year ago when we realized they were personally out and about pounding the pavement and getting people excited about their music and brand. The band members were actively seeking out people in the biz and inviting them to listen and to come to a show. Now, that doesn’t make them extraordinary. No. Many bands do that. What Spence has is charisma and charm…and persistence. They are good at making sure that people that are slightly close to their venues are aware of their tour and personally invited to come out. They reminded us over and over again where they were, and made sure that we were there to hang with them and have a drink. Dedication and persistence.

Charisma and charm can get you far, but can only get you so far. Their music does the rest. Although poppy, they give a modern spin on nostalgic glam. They are Bon Jovi meets 2013. I mean that in a good way. I wish Bon Jovi were still who he was back in the day. Now he is pretty much a pretty face. Spence, on the other hand, has a pretty face and some pretty memorable songs. They are authentic, heavy in the right places, softer in others, and all in all, are a quality product turned out by a quality group.

They started out as a young group out of the loins of LA. Comprised by lead vocalist Daniel David, guitarist Seth Jared, lead guitarist Jordan Stricklen, bassist Steven Miller, and drummer Brad Hurst, this band looked to acclaimed producer Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) to record a four song series. They then established themselves in the Hollywood scene, giving impetus to where they are today.

After becoming a staple of Hollywood nightlife, playing much-admired venues such as The Viper Room, The Whiskey, and The Roxy Theater, the band began moving to break out of this shell and go beyond the Hollywood scene. This is when they began knocking on doors, and wound up on RockRevolt’s doorstep. We were in the throes of multiple projects, but now, on the eve of their 2013 tour announcement, we are pleased to announce them as RockRevolt Magazine’s Indie Band of the Week.

The band has three EPs out circulating the musical stratosphere. The first coming out in 2009, Everything You Never Wanted, Til the End, coming out in 2011, and the third, Noir, which released just this past June.
