CONCERT PHOTOS: RICK SPRINGFIELD

Location: Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland – Located in downtown Kansas City in the Power & Light District, the original Midland Theatre opened in 1927. In 2007, AEG Live and The Cordish Company formed a partnership to undertake a multi-million dollar renovation of the historic venue.
I wasn’t sure what to expect of a Rick Springfield concert. The stage set of a bar stool and 5 guitars was exactly forthcoming. A 64 year old rocker who was on my teen bop when big hair and acid washed jeans were in high style. I wasn’t prepared for the next two hours of highly entertaining music and camaraderie. As Rick got comfortable before his first song a fan from the front row decided she needed to pee. His response was to ask if she was six and unable to hold it…and if she really had to go to bring him back a glass of red wine. He ended up with 4 glasses of wine before the night was through. With a voice that carried an acoustic My Father’s Chair amazingly and looks that still prompted the emcee to ask that no panties be thrown at the stage Rick is still every 80s teenage dream. With a total of 16 songs including crowd favorites “Affair of the Heart”, “Human Touch”, “You Better Love Somebody” and of course “Jessie’s Girl” he plays to his crowd. My personal favorite was the relatively new “If Wishes Were Fishes”…what is not to love about a song sung by that ends in WTF. With a new movie Ricki & the Flash coming out in August and a new album titled Mayhem coming out later this summer, Rick Springfield is still living the Rock n Roll dream he’s had since he was 14.
