The Summer Nationals Tour / Live 105’s Punk Rock Picnic rolled through Mountain View, CA this past Sunday 8/31/14. The event was held in the main parking lot of the venue instead of the amphitheater and this was for good reason… chairs don’t mix well with punk rock. Upon entering the main gate fans were greeted with a chalk board with neon letters that read “NO MOSHING PLEASE.” As the day went on the “NO” part of the board had been rubbed away and now read “MOSHING PLEASE.” This pretty much set the tone for the entire day as both fans and bands stuck with the punk rock “screw you, I’m having a good time” mindset.
The bands played hard and fast, tossing out some old school punk tunes while fans ignored the “no moshing” sign. The crowd got crazier as the day progressed and by the time Bad Religion was up, an over excited fan climbed onto the stage and proceeded to climb almost to the top of the stage rig. Once he came down he was nabbed by security and dragged away, as fans cheered and hi-fived him all the way out of the venue.
Finally, The Offspring took the stage to close out the day by playing their entire album Smash, celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the album’s release in 1994. Even after two decades the guys in The Offspring stayed true to their fans and delivered exactly what they wanted.
