On October 20th, the Butcher Babies rolled through Kansas City and tore the Riot Room down. Opening the show was Kansas City’s own Marasmus. They brought their own brand of metal to the stage and got the crowd started off right. I was very impressed with the guitar work by Andrew Nagorski, who could more than likely get up and shred with some of the best in the business.

After Marasmus, Nekrogoblikon took to the stage. This, I have to say, was a very interesting set filled with great music and a crazy stage dancer. Nekrogoblikon has, you guessed it, its own Goblin that accompanies them to stage. I would have to say, by looking at their many social media sites, that the Goblin is having the best time on this tour. Hell, even Carla from the Butcher Babies admitted to having a crush on the man in green. Definitely check this band out and go give them a “like”.

Finally, it was time to party Butcher Babies style. As the lights went down in the club, everyone started to go ape shit. When the band took to the stage, it got even louder. The tone was set from the moment they came out and we all heard, “Ladies and Gentleman, Children of all ages, step right up.” We knew that we were in for a hell of a night. Just like “Monsters Ball” says, “No, you can’t stop moving,” we did not stop until it was time to make like Elvis and exit the building. What was awesome about this show was that it was in a smaller venue with no barrier to the stage, and everyone got to be up close and in the action. Heidi and Carla spent most of the night atop their steps, leaning out toward the crowd with their microphones out, and allowing anyone who knew the words to sing along. They played a great mix of music, both older favorites and some selections from the new album, Take it Like a Man. There were many great moments in the night, but when the ladies got the chant from Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers going, the crowd was much obliged to chant right along. Sadly, the night came to an end, and “Magnolia” wrapped things up for the band; although, the night was not over. As I have seen for the last couple Butcher Babies shows I have been to, the band is not done until the fans are. Whether someone wants pictures with Carla and Heidi, or just to talk shop with Chris, Butcher Babies wants to make sure they are available for everyone that would like the opportunity to meet them, and for the fans, that is something special. So, take your asses out and see this tour, and don’t be afraid to say hi to the band when you see them; they love it.
