Hell or Highwater, the Orange County rock band founded by Atreyu's Brandon Saller, is the project that keeps Saller stimulated and creative. They tore apart the UPROAR Festival this past summer, and this year they continue building on that momentum, as they tour alongside The Darkness. RockRevolt Magazine was fortunate to squeeze in a quick interview with Brandon while he pushes forward on the last leg of this tour.

Blissful psychedelic hippie oriental electronic experimental pop music. Yes, this is quite a handful to spill from your mouths, but this is exactly what the duo The Glass Canoe have done with their most recent album Through Lianas. It takes your mind on a trip at first, making you think, “What the hell is this?” but once that’s over and done with, the album is essentially a sonic masterpiece.
With Atreyu on what is seemingly an indefinite hiatus and with none of these “Surprise, we’re back” tours that always spread like a plague amongst bands that just can’t call it quits, drummer Brandon Saller has gone out on his own and created new band: Hell or Highwater. They’ve taken what his previous band started, and rocktified the shit out of it on debut album Begin Again.
Let’s get one thing sorted from the get go, this is not rock'n'roll, but GODDAM it is some cool shit! There is so much to take in and grab hold of here that fans of all styles, especially progressive rock/metal, will find something to latch onto and obsess over.
13 is an unlucky number for some, but apparently not for Blackbox13 and their mini-album Army Of None. When listening to it you have to consider that the four piece aren’t out to re-invent the wheel; it’s just plain hard rock - pretty damn fine hard rock.
Graveyard will be injecting some much needed fire and funk into your virgin ears with their astonishing new record Lights Out.
Are you bored of metal bands consistently droning out the same note in a blasphemous attempt at getting the “Heavy” and “Brutal” sound, trying to reflect the good old days of rock? The London based Ace Mafia is our Indie Band of the Week for a reason – they provide the raw heaviness that we wanted whilst sticking to their classical roots. We got to interview their bassist – Geos – and you can see how the interview went here…
It is good to see a band spend time and effort on a B-side collection, unlike most bands or record labels that push out these collections to either generate money for the label or buzz for an upcoming record, Kylesa have spent over a year going through their back catalogue to produce a wondrous accumulation of material that will satisfy die hard fans and new fans alike.
Saturday 27th October was the day when the undead rose to invade Exeter. It was a sight to behold, with special guests of zombified military personnel, lumberjacks, scientists, Frank the Rabbit off ‘Donnie Darko’ and a banana wearing Jason Voorhees’ mask. The walk ended with the ultimate zombie ball, headlined by two upcoming bands – The Dead Lay Waiting and Fearless Vampire Killers.
Reggae has always been my preferred genre of music, often hidden in the midst of my Ipod and overlooked by ‘keen’ music lovers in the realm of rock and metal. Now that The Dirty Heads are in the collection, I can proudly come out as a proud reggae lover after listening to their album Cabin By The Sea.
Most bands would close-up shop with a simple bow to their strong audience base or release a ‘Best of’ collection to extort as much money as possible from their beloved fans. The UK based ‘Basement’, their latest album ‘Colourmeinkindness’ has proven to be the five piece’s final effort to shine, showing many other bands how to break up with style.
Introductions are not necessary for a band as legendary as Napalm Death. They have been striking fear and a politically pissed-off attitude to the UK for more than 30 years. We spoke to the Mark "Barney" Greenway (lead singer) about their tour, Napalm Death’s latest album and why they would like to play in Kazakhstan…
