ALBUM REVIEW: THE DIRTY HEADS – CABIN BY THE SEA

Reggae has always been one of my preferred genres of music, often hidden in the midst of my ipod and overlooked by ‘keen’ music lovers in the realm of rock and metal.  Now that The Dirty Heads are in the collection, I can proudly come out as a proud reggae lover after listening to their album Cabin By The Sea.

The album leaps into life with the blissful “Arrival” before merging with the happiness of Cabin By The Sea, with melodic acoustic riffs from Dustin Bushnell. The album often experiments within the boundaries of the genre, dipping in and out of dub mixes in the likes of “Your Love” (feat. Kymani Marley) and the funky hip hop of  “Mongo Push” and “Smoke Rings,” starring the fantastically named Del The Funky Homosapien, even the more popish segment of “Dance All Night” seemed to fit nicely with this eclectic mix of tunes.

This is an album that doesn’t disappoint. It provides an atmosphere of ambience and something to make you sit back and relax in a world of happiness and positive vibes. Not only is this album impeccably amazing, it provides a message: reggae is back to take over the music world, and The Dirty Heads are going to be part of that movement.
