American Head Charge has taken back to the road in support of ‘Tango Umbrella’, their first full length album since 2005’s The Feeding. After five shows and driving 2147 miles in five days, American Head Charge pulled into Aftershock in Merriam, KS, ready to swing from the rafters, and yes, Cameron was literally swinging from the rafters. If you have ever been to a venue that has accessible rafters to Mr. Heacock, you know he is taking advantage of them.

As a veteran of many AHC shows, I had a slight shock to the system when the band struck the first notes, and they did not belong to “All Wrapped Up”. This time around, they kicked things off with a new one from Tango Umbrella. “Let All The World Believe” was a welcomed new lead off as it whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Speaking of the crowd, come on KC, we could have represented a little better than that, but for those of you who did make it, my hat is off to you. You could hear everyone on that floor singing along to every word of every song, much to the bands delight. Cameron, taking notice, took many occasions to just stand there and take it all in with a huge smile as the crowd sang for him. While they did not start the night with my favorite song, they sure did end it with it. With a special guest, James Anthony Legion of Motograter, “All Wrapped Up” closed out the night.

You would think with all the travel and the flat tire they had to change at 6:00 a.m. the morning of the show, they would have been assed out, but there was no sign of it. I do believe they put more energy into closing out the show than they did throughout the entire night, and that is not a dig; it was a shocker as they gave their all, all night long. And one final note: Karma, I hope you are okay, man. While playing his ass off, he took a nasty spill while hitting one of his pedals and slipping on it after jumping off the drum riser and landing on it. So again, Karma, thank you for playing your heart out, and I really hope you are okay.
