The new band from Relapse Records, WindHand, is about to release their first album, Soma.
For whoever listens to WindHand‘s new album, Soma, it’s evident that the band is discovering and refining their sound, because each song follows a different kind of rock music style. The album features stylistic nods to other legendary artists, evidenced by the vocal similarity to that of the singer Ozzy Osbourne in the song “Feral Bones.”
The song “Evergreen” takes you into a liberating inner journey where you will be transported to a primitive astral plane. Here you will feel free and disconnected from everything and everyone. This song is an attempt to follow the footsteps of Jim Morrison’s songs: music that transports your mind and soul.
In the song “Boleskine” you notice the attempts to make something new, following the pattern of the Nine Inch Nails‘s song, “Hurt”, which was covered by Johnny Cash in 2002.
The song “Cassock” is a kind of “let free your inhibitions”, “live fast and die young, while eating, breathing and sleeping rock n’ roll” kind of song.
The whole album is a reflection of rock music through history and all of its progression, with songs of how it used to sound like and almost all of its transitions until the rock n’ roll from today. Be ready to alternate shaking your head and dance free while listening to this one!
Windhand will be on tour from Sept 5 – Oct 3rd and then again this winter. Make sure to get out there and check them out.
