In today’s world of modern music which tends to focus on gimmicks and technology, getting an album like Pop Evil’s Up to review is refreshing. The album feels like a complete piece, not just a couple of singles surrounded by filler material. Up is the teaming of Pop Evil and producer Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, to name a few) assembled at Studio Litho and London Bridge Studios. The album seems like a natural progression from their last LP Onyx – which was very successful. The band sounds and performs like all the touring for Onyx paid off. This is certainly one of the best high adrenaline rock albums I’ve heard in a while. It’s nice to hear guitar driven blue collar relatable rock which deals with the daily struggles we all go through. With the driving power of the music here, this would work well in anyone’s workout mix. You can put it on and not be rushing to skip past one song to get to the good ones.

Pop Evil starts off strong with the single “Footsteps” which sounds like a great song for sporting events and even perfectly suited for a movie soundtrack. The band’s music has been used like that before and this would work as well. Which leads to “Core” a nice solid straight ahead rock song. Other songs that stood out to me where songs like “Ghost of Muskegon” which is very dynamic. The ballad “If Only Now” should be played on pop and rock stations with ease. It’s accessible to a wide audience with a lot of crossover potential. Songs like “Ways to Get High” and other songs on this album have elements that remind me of the best of 90’s rock, yet still sounding modern. If you are a Pop Evil fan, this a definite one to purchase. If you are new to the band, it’s a great introduction to their music library.
