ALBUM REVIEW: DORO – RAISE YOUR FIST

Just when you thought it was safe to pack up your Aqua Net, your skin-tight leather pants and those ratty concert tees, have I got some news for you. You are going to need them sooner than you might think. DORO, the reigning Queen of Metal, just released her 16th Album “Raise Your Fist.” So get out that teasing comb, double up on the eyeliner and get a supersized tube of muscle rub ready, (you’re going to need it after all the head banging you ‘ll be doing) – it’s time to get that those fists in the air…DORO style!

If you’re not up on your DORO, let me fill you in on a few facts about this incredible metal goddess. This former front woman for the band Warlock, DORO was the first woman to front a metal band at the Monsters of Rock festival in Castle Donington, England. Another little known fact about DORO and her band is that her drummer is Johnny Dee.. Yes THAT Johnny Dee, the one that pounded the skins for 1980s hair band Britny Fox. Both are at the top of their game on Raise Your Fist.

Raise Your Fist”  is a true rock anthem. If anyone can get your fist pumping, DORO can. It is the perfect way to start out this heart-pounding CD.  On “Coldhearted Lover” DORO will get you all hot and bothered with those sexy yet raspy vocals.  When she says she is Looking for a lover, a Coldhearted Lover” you know she means it and you want it to be you!  There are a some undeniable standout tracks on this release. “Rock Till Death” is a true balls-to-the-wall rocker. “Revenge” has some blazing guitar riffs on it fully intended in ripping your face off, and it does just that.  Another notable heavy hitter is “Take No Prisoner.”

What would any good 80s inspired metal album be without its power ballads?   Don’t worry, DOROs got ya covered. “Free My Heart” is a beautifully written ballad.  “Hero” is another amazingly arranged song with some great riffs.  That leads us to the surprise on this release…wait for it, wait for it…LEMMY KILMISTER CAN SING!!!  Ok, so you say, “We already knew that! He has been singing in Motörhead for years.”  You are not understanding this, I mean SING sing; as in a heartfelt emotional duet with Doro. “It Still Hurts” is a really incredible duet.  Think Ozzy and Lita “Close My Eyes” 2012.  This is the one you’ve been waiting for.  For all her German fans,  DORO even threw in two song’s: “Freiheit” and “Engel. “ Who wouldn’t want Doro to sing “I’ll be your Angel” to you in German?  Priceless.

From heavy rocker thrash fests to metal to power ballads (did I mention that Lemmy can sing?) DORO’s Raise Your Fist has it all and is a must have in any true rocker’s music collection.

If 13 new tracks just aren’t enough, if you order on Amazon you get 3 bonus tracks “Sealed in Blood”, “Strong and Proud”, and the Metallica cover “Nothing Else Matters.”  Catch her on tour in the States starting in January with metal band Sister Sin. DORO and Liv on one stage; can you handle it?
