Urillia’s debut EP is a cross section of the best parts of several extreme metal genres. Sometimes when a band attempts to mix genres you get a big mess of nothing. Urilia manages to make it all work and not only that, sound great at it too. An unexpected journey into what blended extreme metal can be when done right.I’ll start with the one sticking point to me, the long intro track. If this was a full length album, I would not be bothered at all, but on an EP that has 5 tracks it is kind of depressing when the rest of the music hits hard. Even with all of that said the intro does set the tone for what is about to come.

The first song is the lead single “I Am Nephilim” and it kicks us into overdrive with its blending of several genres. It also is a great way to soft introduce us to a band that has this much talent. “Bleeding Perfection” is another solid example of the genre blend they do amazingly well from the deathcore breakdowns to the symphonic black metal passages. “Ordained of the Hydra” and “Core of the Black Sun” do not relent and the listeners will be the better for it. This 5 song EP is well played and for one this reviewer cannot wait to listen to a full length.

The lyrical concept alone is empowering, and a legion of metal fans will definitely find it something that they can grab on to. Not following society and self-empowerment alone are enough for any metal fan but following a luciferin path is just another nail being used to hammer home their beliefs through lyrics.

Overall, this was an excellent EP that will most definitely get repeated listens. Minus the introduction, it starts off heavy and will not relent. I highly recommend spending your hard earned money on this album.
