THE WINERY DOGS– Richie Kotzen (lead vocals/guitar), Mike Portnoy (drums), Billy Sheehan (bass)—will launch their latest U.S. headlining tour Saturday, June 25 in Hinckley, MN at the Grand Casino Amphitheatre in support of their critically-acclaimed, self-produced second album, HOT STREAK, which was released in North America October 2, 2015 on Loud & Proud Records. It was preceded by the first single, “Oblivion,” which quickly made its way onto the Top 30 of the Billboard “Mainstream Rock Tracks” chart. A double vinyl edition of the new album was released November 13, 2015.
To get fans revved up for the new tour, the hard rocking trio is releasing a new single, “Captain Love,” to radio on June 3. A Vicente Cordero-directed video for the song premiered on GuitarWorld.com earlier today. It’s one of the band’s favorite songs on the album. While lyricist/singer/guitarist Richie Kotzen doesn’t confess to be the subject of the song, drummer Mike Portnoy believes it’s the perfect groove to be played in strip clubs around the world, as he and Kotzen explains in this clip.
“Eight months after kicking off our 1st U.S. leg last October and following runs in Europe, Japan & South America,” explains Portnoy, “we are excited to round home plate and return home with some more U.S. shows in June and July.”
After landing in the Top Five on many of Amazon’s pre-order charts, including #1 on the Amazon Best Sellers/Hard Rock chart and #1 on the Amazon Pre-Orders/Hard Rock Albums charts, THE WINERY DOGS celebrated a HOT STREAK of first week album sales. It sold 30% more than their 2013 self-titled debut, landing them on various Billboard album charts including #2 on “Top Current Alternative Albums” and #30 on the “Top 200 Albums.” Elsewhere on the Billboard charts:
#5 “Top Current Hard Music”
#5 “Top Hard Music Albums”
#6 “Top Current Rock Albums”
#6 “Album Core / Genre Rock”
#15 “Top Current Physical Albums”
#16 “Top Current Albums”
HOT STREAK shows the powerfully pedigreed trio’s initial burst of collective chemistry was no accident, from the strum and headbang of “Captain Love” to the propulsive uplifting vibe of “The Bridge” to the introspective acoustic harmonic convergence of “Fire.” If these three DOGS thought they captured lightning in a supper dish the first time around, HOT STREAK barks ups the aural ante into exciting new territory.
Vintage Guitar magazine hailed HOT STREAK as an album that, “…combines blue-eyed soul, heavy rock, memorable hooks, and lightning-fast licks. Billy Sheehan, Richie Kotzen, and Mike Portnoy deliver prodigious talent, never forgetting that it’s all about the song and the groove.”
