The Glorious Sons in Portland, OR

There are a few bands out there that write “sing-a-long worthy” tunes. Journey, for example, will get an arena singing along. Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” will also compel every patron in the club to wail out in all their tone-deaf glory.

In Portland Oregon’s Hawthorne Theater, I found that The Glorious Sons are also one such band. These five Canadian rockers opened for The Struts, and RockRevolt Magazine was in Portland for the final performance of their tour. Although it looked a bit like the “final night of tour” celebrations kicked off before their set even began, the Glorious Sons had the sold-out Hawthorne Theater singing right along. There was something so completely compelling about lead singer Brett Emmons that makes you want to join right in. Perhaps he’s just charismatic? Or, it’s an overwhelming empathy that washes over the crowd when all the instruments are silenced and it’s his voice alone filling the space? Regardless, as the Portland crowd learned the songs, they quickly found themselves singing along. Hell, as I write this, I’m trying to suppress the chorus from “Sawed Off Shotgun” from taking over my brain.

Although their tour with The Struts has ended, that doesn’t mean that they’ll be taking a break anytime soon. They’re currently touring all over the world with several upcoming dates here in the states this fall. Peep these pictures, then get your ass out there to hear these guys live!
