Interview and show review – Tech N9ne in Eugene, OR

It was a rainy spring evening when Tech N9ne and his Strange Music crew rolled into Eugene, OR for the Planet tour.  Despite the overcast sky with a nearly guaranteed chance of getting drenched, Technicians from all over the Willamette valley packed into Eugene’s Cuthbert Amphitheater.  When it comes to getting soaked, apparently the Oregon faithful are Fresh Out of fucks!

Helping Tecca Nina bring the riot, Just Juice, Joey Cool, and King ISO rocked the Cuthbert.  Also, making a last minute change to the lineup, Hopsin came to rock Eugene.  On stage, Just Juice shared that he had recently lost his brother, dedicating his performance to his departed sibling.  King ISO also shared some of his personal battles with depression and attempted suicide, crediting Tech N9ne with saving his life.  During Hopsin’s set, he invited a handful of Oregonians up on stage to let their freak flag fly just a bit.  Reminding everyone that the equipment on stage all belongs to Tech, he begged everyone to not break shit but that they had to be dancing the whole time while on stage.

When the dust settled and the sun made it’s way beyond the horizon, Tech N9ne made his entrance.  As the stage became engulfed in fog, A globe at the back of the stage rotated and Tech emerged and made his way toward the stage.  Tech brought a lot of new material, including Fresh Out!, Kick It With Myself, Don’t Nobody Want None, Bad Juju, No Reason, and others.  Of course, classics like Sriracha, Dysfunctional, Einstein, He’s a Mental Giant, and Caribou Lou made the set list.  Worldwide Choppers and Speedom were cleverly intertwined into a medley and Riotmaker kicked off the mosh portion of the program.  Sadly, Areola was dropped from Tech’s live performances which he explains in some detail in “My Fault” off the new album.

We are thankful that Tech made some time to chat with us before the show.  Watch this clip and find out why you’ll be seeing Tech putting his rap game on the back burner and instead Rockin’ stages.
