It’s that crazy time of year, again, and with its constant stream terrible pop renditions of Christmas carols and that damn Elf on the Shelf, ANY opportunity to tune down and relax is NEEDED. So next time you’re ready to throw on the sweats or yoga pants and relax, pull out this chill little gem of an LP from modern bass music producer STARBASS. With just the right balance of sexy bass and delicate instrumentation (and YES, you did hear some flute in there), Distant Signals is a necessary injection of chill that you need to check out. Not to say there isn’t a definite club feel here, but it’s just too damn perfect listened to through a pair of high quality headphones with a glass of wine!
Distant Signals is all about texture and emotion, trying to paint a visual picture with sound in a very cinematic way. I tried not to care about electronic music categories and genres and just make music that was rich, detailed and full of feeling. The album works great coming out of a system at a club or a festival but also has an intimacy that is wonderful to listen to when it’s just your headphones and your innermost thoughts. – Starbass
