To say that the SuicideGirls are somewhat of a cultural phenomenon would be a gross understatement, and the Blackheart Burlesque live show is a sight to behold. This traveling troupe of tantalizing temptresses combine song, dance, humor, and pop culture into a spectacle that will have you forgetting that all the while, they’re peeling off their outergarments to show the world what a SuicideGirl looks like in all of her 3 dimensional glory.
Lexi Suicide participated in the performances and doubled as the MC for the event. But, kicking off the show was comedian and SuicideGirl, Lindsey Jennings. By the time Ms. Jennings dropped her second joke, the audience was roaring with laughter. I’mma be real with ya too, a few of her jokes were so wild, I was asking myself… “What the fuck? Can she actually say that?” The whole time, my head’s on a swivel looking for the Portland department of political correctness to come in and shut the party down. But alas, the show roared on.
Now, this was my first time attending a burlesque performance. So, I was half expecting to come into a room full of men. And don’t get me wrong. I live in Portland, OR where there are more strip clubs per capita than any other place in our fine United States. So, my preconceived notion of how this was going to play out was based on a misguided past. To my surprise, the ladies in the audience far outnumbered the men. And through the duration of the show, with performances from sexy stormtroopers, naughty trekkies, and all things nerdy, the audience was laughing, cheering and having a very good time.
So, next time the lusty ladies of the SuicideGirls roll through your town, grab your significant other and go have a good time.
