Percussionist Chris Fehn officially splits with Slipknot after nearly 25 years with the band.
Fehn was one of two percussionists for the Grammy award-winning heavy metal band who was recognized by his signature Pinocchio-style mask. The split came less than a week after a money dispute between Fehn and the band, reported The Blast.
Slipknot released a statement on their website.
“Slipknot’s focus is on making album #6, and our upcoming shows around the world, our best ever. Chris knows why he is no longer a part of Slipknot. We are disappointed that he chose to point fingers and manufacture claims, rather than doing what was necessary to continue to be a part of Slipknot. We would have preferred he not take the path that he has, but evolution in all things is a necessary part of this life. Long Live The Knot.”
According to The Blast, Fehn filed a lawsuit against his bandmates earlier this week after he claimed to discover that the band’s profits were being split unfairly.
Over the years, Fehn was under the impression that the money from merchandise and touring was managed through one sole company. Upon recent discovery, Fehn accuses his bandmates, specifically band leaders Shawn Crahan and Corey Taylor, of working through other companies without his knowledge or consent.
Fehn is seeking a full forensic investigation on Slipknot’s accounting and looks to collect profits and damage costs he believes he is owed.
What does Corey Taylor have to say about this, you ask? Not much so far, but he appears to deny the claim. This afternoon he posted a comment on Twitter saying that he was wrongfully accused.
Slipknot continues to work on their new album and play shows. The band has big plans to tour across North America this summer for The KNOTFEST Roadshow with Volbeat, Gojira and BEHEMOTH! The tour kicks off July 26 through Sept. 8. Get tickets and find an event near you here.
