Show Review: Dance Gavin Dance

The 16 of April, Dance Gavin Dance, Periphery, Don Broco, Hail the Sun and Covet stormed the stage of the legendary Agora. From acoustic rock, to post hardcore, to progressive metal, Cleveland got a show to remember.

The night opened with Covet, an acoustic trio from California. The audience stood and listened to the calm rock that started off the night on such a good note. Their musicianship proved impressive, and their energy was tranquil and mesmerizing.

Next, there was Hail the Sun: a post hardcore band, who I’ve actually seen at the Agora before. Since I saw them last, Hail the Sun has dramatically improved their live performance and stage presence. The band blends well in their artistry, and seems to enjoy bouncing off each other’s energy on stage.

Band three, Don Broco, was the band I was most excited for. If you have never seen this band, you need to. Don Broco is hardcore-rock- party music; they bring a presence to the stage unlike any other: explosive, ecstatic and eager. This performance was even better than the last one I saw, and had the floor vibrating from the jumping of the crowd.

Periphery was the darkest sound of the night, and had a lot of support at this show. The band brought a booming sound to the stage that had a much eerier feeling than the rest of the show. The crowd went wild as the singer moved from side to side, getting as close as possible to the fans, and there was a mosh at every breakdown. This was my first time seeing Periphery, and I highly recommend checking them out when they come by you.

Last, but certainly not least: Dance Gavin Dance. I’ve seen this band many times now, and I swear every time they get even better. The air was steaming from the screams of the crowd, and their excitement fueled one of their best performances I’ve seen from them yet. Tillian Pearson voice blended like a dream with fellow band members, and had everyone singing along to every track. Not that anyone needs me to tell them this, but if Dance Gavin Dance comes to your area…you cannot miss it.
