Sepultura And Les Tambours du Bronx: Metal Veins – Alive At Rock In Rio
Eagle Rock Entertainment
Release: 16 September 2014
Celebrating their 30 years of rock n’ rolling around the world, Sepultura returned to their native Brazil to celebrate and produce their 30 Years Anniversary CD/DVD.
From the first track “Kaiowas” you can already feel the rhythm of the percussion. It starts out heavy and from the middle of the song you can begin to experience the band exposing their Brazilian roots.
In “Spectrum” the guitar is the spotlight from the beginning. The song appears to be inspired by horror movies, as it exudes the sounds reminiscent of smiths working and a chainsaws buzzing in the background, an intelligent approach from the band. This simple introduction ends with the sounds of thousands of rapt fans screaming the band’s name.
In “Refuse/Resist” they bring back the Brazilianish beat paired up with amazing riffs followed by the vocals. In this song you can almost feel the manifestation of anger punching your face with the heavy beating.
“Sepulnation” is the anthem of the band and that’s what it was made to be. It starts with Sepultura’s signature percussion onslaught and ravaging riffs which. Following suit to anthems across the board, the balance is between instruments and vocals are tilted in favor of the singer, because the words in it are made to be in the spotlight.
During “Delirium and Fever” the French revolt is strongly demonstrated when LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX take over with their industrial percussion and rock the stage…French style.
“We’ve Lost You” starts soft and simple and gradually becomes heavier until it hits the perfect sublime metal level. After that metal bliss we get a taste of the cover of The Prodigy’s “Firestarter”, Sepultura’s style (aka much more heavier and with extra horror inclination in its sound). These are both followed by LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX’s headbanging “Requiem” accompanied by Andreas Kisser’s matching guitar riffs.
“Structure Violence (Azzes)” starts with a progression that proceeds until the end along with Portuguese words representing human and political values and issues like “equality” and “democracy”.
Derrick Green narrates the listener to a journey to the thunder of instrumental that follows during “Territory”.
LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX’s “Big Hands” explore the party side of the percussion rhythm as we appreciate the brilliance of the Sepultura’s guitarist, Andreas Kisser’s, talent showcased within it.
The last song is “Roots Bloody Roots”, one Sepultura’s most infamous songs from their most controversial album, Roots. The song is one of the most violent and heavy from the band and it doesn’t just demand headbanging, but it forces it from the beginning until the end.
Metal FYI: For whoever don’t know, Sepultura means “Grave” in Portuguese and the “Alive at Rock in Rio” is a funny analogy making a reference to it.
