UPDATE December 4, 2015 7:00 pm Stone Temple Pilots issued an official and letter of sentiment directed at Scott Weiland regarding his passing via Spin.com.
December 4, 2015: Former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver lead singer, Scott Weiland (48) was found unresponsive by his personal tour manager on the band’s tour bus at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday night and has passed away (December 3, 2015).
According to ThePRP.com, Weiland’s wife, Jamie Wachtel-Weiland, whom he married in 2011 has confirmed the singer’s passing and a statement was just released on Weiland’s official Facebook Page.
Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts were set to play at the Medina Ballroom in Minnesota, but the show was obviously cancelled after Weiland was found shortly before the band was supposed to go on stage.
Weiland is best known as the lead singer of the band Stone Temple Pilots, which he fronted from 1986 to 2002 and again from 2008 to 2013. He was also part of the supergroup Velvet Revolver from 2003 to 2008. Weiland was in the process of being sued by Velvet Revolver.
Despite the singer’s well-document issues with drug use in the past, Weiland just told Loudwire in June that he stopped using drugs 13 years ago.
At the time of this publishing, the cause of death was undetermined. Weiland is survived by his wife and by two children from a previous relationship, Noah, born in 2000, and Lucy, born in 2002.
