If there is one truth about Kalamazoo, MI Indie Rockers Willamena, it’s that they exemplify the legendary Midwest work ethic. Dubbed ‘Michigan’s Hardest Working Rock Band,’ and that’s saying something considering the state’s contributions with such names as Alice Cooper, Glen Frye, and The Stooges, Willamena has been churning out consistently top notch albums and singles for about 2 decades, with no one outside radio even knowing it. Their newest release, a self-produced, 5 track EP aptly titled Strong Enough to Last, (which, sadly, almost wasn’t, due to at least one unscrupulous producer) is showcase melding of such influences as Tom Petty, U2, and REM, but with a dose of that trademark Michigan can-do attitude.
They’ve also revealed a lighthearted lyric video for the lead single, “When You Close Your Eyes,” which itself has already been charting across rock radio AND Billboard ahead of the album.
