MagFest Expansion Pack Tour – MACHINAE SUPREMACY live at Trees in Dallas, TX
What happens when gamers pick up more than just controllers and start letting it influence their music? You get bands like Machinae Supremacy from Sweden. RockRevolt Magazine was lucky enough to catch them on their last night of the MagFest Expansion Pack Tour at Trees in Dallas, Texas on January 21st.
Opening the show was a killer local band Secret of Boris. This was two nights in a row that we were able to see a great local act from Dallas. One of the other opening acts, and I can see why he was with Machinae Supremacy was Danimal Cannon from New York. This guy was amazing, yes just one man, a guitar and a Game Boy. That’s right all of his music was created with just a guitar and a Game Boy. Check this guy out he is amazing with a guitar and can solo while being wrapped in toilet paper, I did say it was the last night of the show.
Making their first trip to America, Machinae Supremacy were wrapping up their month-long trip though our country hitting 11 states along the way before finding their way to Trees for the end of the run. They came over the pond to support their latest album Into the Night World. Taking the stage they must have had everything turned up to 11 because as they let lose my head was peeled back. Thunderous drums and heavy guitars paralleled the voice of singer Robert Stjärnström. The lead the night of with the title track Into the Night World and never looked back. Songs like Dark City and Rise of a Digital Nation were unleashed for the crowed to hear. Like I said earlier it was the last show of the tour so shenanigans were bound to be a part of the night. As they attempted to close with Through the Looking Glass the toilet paper started to fly. I had no idea you could rig up a machine to shoot toilet paper at 10 rolls a minute. That was not all folks. Poor Niklas Karvonen, the drummer had a box put over his head as a distraction, but from what. Well let’s just say that as he was trying to strike cymbals and toms they were slowly disappearing as his kit was being disassembled as he was trying to play. It was really exciting to see the antics of the last night of the tour and to see how much love and respect each of the bands had built for each other along the road.
