The Canadian Post Grunge band, Saint Asonia was next. They were a step down on the energy scale but not on the talent. This is a band that has only been around since May (announced at Rock On The Range) but sounded like the type of music people in their twenties and thirties grew up with. The main reason of this would be due to the fact they were actually a super group, consisting of Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace), Mike Mushok (Staind), Corey Lowery (Eye Empire), and Rich Beddoe (Finger Eleven). After the first song, “Better Place,” I began to realize that after this weekend, my bank account would be suffering a tremendous deficit, after happily handing over my moneys in exchange for music. Based on the audience’s reaction, I’d say, I’m not the only one. This group was making it as a new act but this didn’t mean they didn’t do covers of their old bands. “Fairy Tale” was as an excellent song that left you wondering if it were directed at someone from a band member’s life? A song with enough passion tends to make you wonder things like that. We were treated with guest vocals from Jonny Hetherington on Three Days Grace’s “Hate Everything About You.” It was a blast from the past that we all hoped we would get. Every member of the audience was electrified by hearing Adam Gontier’s old song and I think he enjoyed the blast from the past every bit as much as the crowd. “Dying Slowly” was next, a dark tune that the audience and anyone who’s ever loved and lost could relate to. It was time to give a little throwback to Mushok’s career in Staind with “Mud Shovel.” This spiked the energy level of the crowd, and with hands raised, the ground shook along with the rock anthem from our teen years. Saint Asonia will go down in history as one of the greatest super groups. The Traveling Wilburys, Chicken Foot, Saint Sonia. Enough said.
