LIVE SHOW COVERAGE: SOCIETY 1

Infamous rockers Society 1 took over the Viper Room on the famous Sunset Boulevard on May 18th. Most certainly no strangers to Hollywood, the act put on quite the performance for the Thursday night patrons. Anyone who has ever seen Society 1 live in the past can all attest to the same known-fact: There is no such thing as an uneventful, uninteresting, and lackluster performance. This group of energetic rock stars have always brought their full attention to each and every show.

Front man Matt Zane knows how to spark enthusiasm in the audience, with his incredibly impressive performance, jumps, and -let’s just say it- crazy acrobatics that would make anyone want to get up and jump. LA Weekly described Lord Zane as an embodiment of “Morrisonesque shamanics and Satanic self-determination”, and that is quite possibly one of the most accurate descriptions one could read. Bassist DV Karloff captivated the audience with enviously proficient playing on his side of the stage, with his infamous expression that catches viewed by storm. Drummer Iorden Mitev, with his incredible locks of hair played skillfully and with poise, keeping the beat going for everyone. New guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle fit in with the band perfectly, playing with an immeasurable fervor. The band knows how to hook the crowd in and hold them hostage until the night’s end.

The set list ran through fan favorites and new sounds, showcasing exquisite playing ability. Each band member is exceptionally talented in their craft, from lyricism, to melody, to impressive wielding of their instruments, Society 1 is comprised of all of the characteristics you WANT in a band.

With the devastating passing of musician Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave), Society 1 took the time to show their admiration and appreciation for the artist’s work, reminding the audience that the musician continues to stay alive by inspiring other bands and hearing glimpses of that inspiration in the music itself.

Mid-performance, Society 1 took the opportunity to wish the beautiful Cat Ravyn a lovely birthday, complete with a little cupcake of her own. Miss Cat starred in their latest photo shoot, during their label signing.

The finale of the night was the band’s own take on the infamous Beatles’ song “I am the Walrus”, with a guest appearance by the beautiful violinist Nicki Wick. The song had been modified by the band quite heavily, but still felt nostalgic to the original music. The addition of a violinist to the performance truly made the night extravagant, a perfect show.

Be sure to pick up their album “RISE FROM THE DEAD” available now.
