After five studio albums and many tours, Simple Plan is still bringing the punch to the stage. The Canada natives released their fifth studio album, Taking One for the Team, earlier this year. With singles like “I Don’t Wanna Go to Bed” and “Singing in the Rain” the album was bound to get great reception. Having just finished up the US leg of the tour, Simple Plan is bringing Taking One for the Team home to Canada and then onto South America. With great reception comes great shows.
Simple Plan performed in New York City at Irving Plaza in October and brought everything they could. The live shows are full of energy and fan interaction. When lead singer Pierre Bouvier wasn’t reaching out to the crowd, he was jumping and storming the stage. The fans’ reactions were amazing. Standing in that crowd taking it all in, it was overwhelming in the best way. There wasn’t a person in the audience who didn’t know every single word to each song that was played.
They started the night out with “Opinion Overload” from the newest album then brought it back to 2011 with “Jet Lag.” Throughout the night the band played old and new songs along with covers of songs such as Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.”
For those who didn’t know Simple Plan sings the Scooby Doo theme song, and the night wouldn’t be complete without hearing that live. Never have there been so many people over the age of twenty going insane for a children’s television theme song. But Simple Plan made it happen!
The band also played the song that made them famous for saying ‘dick’ on the radio back in 2002 with their song “Addicted” from their debut studio album No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls. And of course, no Simple Plan concert would be complete without hearing their 2002 hit “Perfect” live. That was the song that made every pop punk and pop rock kid feel like they weren’t alone.
It’s rare these days when you see a band who has been together for a long period of time still have all of the original members making music and touring together, but Pierre Bouvier, Jeff Stinco, Sebastien Lefebvre, David Desrosiers, and Chuck Comeau are all still rocking out together.
Simple Plan’s Taking One for the Team album is out now!
