This was nothing cool or crazy. It was a Korn concert. You know the drill. It’s Johnathan Davis, Brian Head Welch, Munkey, Fieldy, and Ray Luzier all doing what they know they do best. Night after night, this band will produce more metal than the gross domestic product of an established and developed nation. That is what one expects right? I mean, it is Korn. We get the classic, “Falling Away from Me”, the new “Spike in my Veins”, and everything else they can slather all over their audiences and have them lap it up like a rabid horde of dehydrated hooligans.
That’s what you expect, and that is what you get…however, this night we received much more. Perhaps it was changing of the seasons. Perhaps it was the recent blood moon bringing rise to a new dawn in metal shows. Perhaps it was the southern hospitality and charm that only we folks in the south can dish up with a smile, a side of moonshine, and a thick as molasses, “How ya doing, hun?” Perhaps it was a little of all of that combined. This night they were better than ever. The smiles on their faces were unequivocal, and they were obviously having a better time than we’ve ever seen them have before.
I’m not a true writer. I don’t know how to make things sound all “cool” and “rock and roll” ya know? I was just blessed with good looks and an ease and ability behind the lens, but what I can write and affirm is this: It was the best I’ve ever seen them in about 15 years!
