Usually best known as the only son of legendary outlaw country music stars “Waylon Jennings” and “Jessi Colter”, “Shooter Jennings” has definitely carved a path of his own in the modern rock-country genre, by staying true to his outlaw country and southern rock meld upbringing.
With hits such as “Outlaw You,” “The Gunslinger,” and “Steady At the Wheel”, Shooter’s career has spanned roughly 15 years, 6 full- length studio albums, a live album, a compilation, and various EP’s.
Waymore’s Outlaws, the original backing and recording band for Waylon Jennings, featuring Richie Albright (drums and namesake to Waylon Albright “Shooter” Jennings) , Jerry “Jigger” Bridges (bass), Fred Newell (steel), Tommy Townsend (vocs) warmed the crowd up Friday night in Oklahoma City, with a couple of Waylon’s best recognized hits “She’s A Good Hearted Woman” and “Good Ole Boys” made famous, of course, as the theme song for TV’s “Dukes of Hazzard”.
Shooter consistently sounds amazing! Watching him perform, you gotta wonder what kind of pressure comes with being known as “Waylon’s son”. Shooter seems to handle himself just fine. He appears calm, cool, and in his rightful place on stage while maintaining a very genuine, authentic disposition. Favorite moments definitely included the Ramones cover “She Talks To Rainbows” and “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone”, a track off the singer’s new album “Countach (for Giorgio)”. Shooter says after playing: “that’s the first time we’ve played that one live”. Can’t wait to hear what the rest of the “Countach” album has to offer with cover art featuring Falkor the Luck Dragon (from 80’s movie The Neverending Story), as well as other iconic 80’s symbols, and featuring names such as Brandi Carlile, Marliyn Manson and more.
