LIVE PHOTOS AND REVIEW: Corrosion of Conformity – Clutch – Lamb of God

Thursday, May 5th, 2016 was the perfect evening for a 90 minute jaunt down good ‘ol Turner Turnpike to Tulsa, Oklahoma- home of “The Outsiders”- to see three colossus acts in rock: Corrosion of Conformity, Clutch, and Lamb of God.

Surprisingly my first visit to Tulsa, I arrived just as the sun was beginning to set creating a picturesque backdrop to the historic downtown view from Brady Theater, located at 105 W. Brady Street.

Corrosion of Conformity dominated the stage as the opening act bringing a captivating presence that met all expectations. Same chemistry and magnetism, playing a 40 minute set and breathing new life into old favorites such as ‘Broken Man’, as well as ‘Clean My Wounds’ and personal highlight, ‘Albatross’. I had the pleasure of briefly speaking with drummer, Reed Mullin, earlier this month during which, he hinted that new music was being worked on (read the entire interview here).

During the show Thursday, Pepper also confirmed to “look for new music in 2017”. Together, with guitarist Woody Weatherman and bassist, Mike Dean, the foursome brought true stoner rock back to Brady Theater. It was amazing to see this lineup together again & I, for one, am super excited to hear some new music from the fellas. Until then, check out these rad pics of the show and make sure you catch them when they roll through your area!

Next up was Clutch. Now, it should probably be said that, if you “know” me in any amount of personal capacity, you might know of my love for all things Clutch, making the rest of this view slightly biast. Of course, JP Gaster (drums), Dan Maines (bass), Tim Sult (guitar) and Neil Fallon (vocals, guitar) were able to deliver a rad-ass jam session made up of favorites from old to new including tunes off albums The Elephant Riders and Blast Tyrant, as well as Psychic Warfare and Earth Rocker. “Last time we were to play Oklahoma, it didn’t quite go as planned,” frontman, Neil Fallon explained, referring to an F2 tornado that ripped through the Valley Brooke area on 5/6/15- the same night Clutch was to play with Mastadon. I remember because I had a photo pass and I braved the storm, just to ride it out in a tin building and the show to be cancelled. Round 2 went much better. A complete set list in all its splendid glory is included below with the most amazing pictures of the band.  “I drank all the beer in Tennessee last night, and I want you to know I intend to do the same in Oklahoma tonight,” Mr. Fallon warned the crowd. If you haven’t seen Clutch live yet, I promise you’re missing one of the most entertaining bands in the business.

Set list: X-Ray Visions, Firebirds, Decapitation Blues, Noble Savage, Cypress Grove, Minotaur, Regulator, Soapmakers, Behold the Colossus, Sucker for the Witch, Earth Rocker, The Face

Last, but certainly not least, headliners for the night Lamb of God slayed the staged bringing their own slice of heaven to this triple treat of stoner/ thrash metal mayhem. Playing for just over an hour and showing the crowd exactly why they can be considered “monsters” of the industry, Lamb of God always delivers a mesmerizing performance. Randy Blythe (vocals), Mark Morton (guitar), Willie Adler (guitar), Chris Adler (drums), and John Campbell (bass) blasted their audience with various tunes spanning the bands existence.

This trifecta of rock & roll amazement is not a spectacle you’ll want to miss, so check the schedule and get your ass to the show in your area!
