LIVE: HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES

Definitely the most star-studded evening in Los Angeles, the supergroup Hollywood Vampires drew a mass crowd for an ‘intimate’ evening under the stars (as intimate as you can get with a slew of talented celebrities that can pull thousands of fans all at once). With the weather pleasantly adhering to the festivities, the outdoor Greek Theater in Los Angeles’ most famous park played a perfect host to the night’s few familiar faces such as Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp, Tommy Henriksen, Glen Sobel, Chris Wyse, and a couple of special guests.

You have to be living under a soundproof rock if you hadn’t yet heard of Hollywood Vampires (having even played The Grammy’s), but for those that need a catch up (it’s okay, you don’t have to admit this to us!)… Hollywood Vampires was formed in 2015 to play homage to the music of the rock stars who died from excess in the 1970s. The band name derives from The Hollywood Vampires, a celebrity drinking club formed by Cooper in the 1970s which included a mass amount of household musical names. The supergroup plays a multitude of well-known (and dearly beloved) classic rock songs, often covering some of their own tracks under the member’s official band titles. A fun, theatrical, and pure nostalgic rock n’ roll show, the band has been enticing audiences around the world (and for more reason than just their known names).

Despite being known primarily to perform covers (and letting Johnny Depp live out his rocker dreams)- the band has a forthcoming album in later June that includes original material. A very exciting endeavor for this extremely talented group, this highly anticipated record is a great reason to set off on a quick tour run and entertain fans for hours to come. Several of the new songs were included in the Greek Theater evening setlist, allowing the crowd to gain a glimpse at what’s to come.

The night opened with a tremendous roar of energy and passion, displaying countless years of expert musicianship and extraordinary showmanship from all musicians involved. However, the biggest surprise of the evening was the addition of special guests Marilyn Manson and Steven Tyler lending their vocal chords to a few songs. Proclaimed rock villain protegé in Marilyn Manson aided in performing a cover of Cooper’s song  “I’m Eighteen” from his 1971 Love It To Death LP, while Perry’s good pal Steven Tyler rocked out for the vintage 1951 track, “Train Kept A-Rollin’.

An unforgettable evening for all those lucky enough to score tickets, Hollywood Vampires are a group that will always, always, always steal the show.
