LIVE: CHASING DESOLATION

Chasing Desolation is a name you won’t forget if you’ve ever been lucky enough to catch one of their live shows. A classy and nostalgic sound intermixed with new and innovative musical ideas, Chasing Desolation delivers both in a live concert format and on the audible front. As perfectly written in the band’s biography, Chasing Desolation “delivers a powerful mix of heavy rock blended with the band’s eclectic mix of influences. They seamlessly transition from in-your-face double-kick laden metal riffs to nuanced, harmony-rich melodic sections that are both catchy and intoxicating. The band delivers a high-energy live set that is sure to win over anyone in the crowd from the moment they step on the stage.” The band’s set at the famous Los Angeles venue Troubadour was no exception to this description!

To give a bit of a backstory to those unfamiliar, Chasing Desolation are Los Angeles transplants, having originally started out in the Bay Area. Originally formed in 2005 by guitarist Jimmy Strimpel before he even reached high school. Seth Perez joined as the drummer, and eventually transitioned to the role of lead vocalist. The band then took a hiatus, but after reuniting in 2016, they added bassist Austin Dunn and the band relocated to Los Angeles. It was there that they found the final addition to the roster, their drummer Mike Mayhem.

The four lads found themselves in front of an excitable room upon entering the stage of the Troubadour. Despite some minor technical mishaps (what’s a rock show without one at least, right?!), the band performed brilliantly- hooking the audience from the very first note and not letting go until the last song was sung. Each band member put their best foot forward during the performance and really made it a point to interact with the crowd below them. At one point, Seth himself hopped into the audience and ran around the venue, singing hand in hand with the music enthusiasts! There is a great chemistry between each band member, both on stage and off, which certainly aids to a well-rounded performance.

The band has recently been gaining serious momentum, with their track “The Human Disease” having been featured on 95.5 KLOS, one of Los Angeles’ premier rock radio stations. In September, the band released a new track and music video, entitled “Night Things”.
