Mental illness, substance abuse, and suicide are some of the most pressing issues in modern society, and while it’s often discussed in the news, it’s not always the easiest to translate into a meaningful artistic discussion. Great North rockers Late Night Fights, whose reputation for meaningful lyrics are matched by a complex musicianship, however, take on the subject with a unique intensity; gravitating between awful claustrophobia and desperate entanglement, “Prison” is all about the suffocating and yet willing loss of oneself in a negative relationship with one’s own rage, depression, and struggle, and how it’s easy to be defeated by it all.
“This video is dedicated to those who feel trapped, lost or like there’s nothing you can do to make things right. Hold close in your hearts all of the talented, spirited, and influential beings that fought the vice grips of depression, addiction, and suicide. We miss you dearly.” – LATE NIGHT FIGHTS
