Brooklyn based, Psych-Alt, all around wacky rockers Karabas Barabas aren’t your typical heavy rock trio; even if their sound wasn’t an eclectic fusion of Mr. Bungle, Primus, Gogol Bordello, Ween, and Tom Waits, their videos and promo imagery would get your attention because it’s really just so damn weird. But don’t dismiss them based on their outlandishness, cause they certainly know their way around a studio, and none other than the legendary Steve Albini (who was responsible for some of the best releases of fellow wacky rockers Nirvana, Pixies, The Breeders, and Foxy Shazam), recognized their talent and took the time to record and mix their beautifully unique debut LP, The Return of the Sexy Demon. We’re absolutely LOVING this album, however, we can’t help but wonder, “what music inspires artists who are so overwhelmingly, creatively unique?” So we posed that question to Phranque and company and this is what they came up with (and what a DIVERSE list!) in response. So check out their music videos for “Being A Man,” above, and “Sexy Guy,” below, and see if you can find echoes of their top ten albums in these wild tracks!
