Denver metal band Public Display of Aggression are re-recording their album To Live and Die In Your Suit and Tie and re-branding what they consider ‘business metal’. The band sat down with RockRevolt Magazine to discuss their live shows, Guy Fawkes, and Saved By The Bell.
The band mentions offhandedly on its Facebook page that your tour van once “careened” off a cliff. Who was driving? Were intoxicants involved? Is the van ok? Did you achieve any self-realization as your lives flashed before your eyes?
It turns out that last tour, we all collectively dreamt this van accident (including the driver). Just kidding, nobody was driving at the time. It was weird that we all had the same dream though.
How did the members of PDA meet? Was it love at first sight?
Brothers James Aggression and Rage were perusing the local gay club where they met Dashing Kenny Daggers at the front bouncing (literally and vocationally). Instantly, they heard the sick beatZ (with a Z) from DJ El Muerte Miguel (Murder Mike), and the extravagantly luscious dance moves of Tommy Mayhem. It was love at first sight indeed.
What is “business metal?” Where did it originate? Why did PDA choose to go in the direction of business metal instead of recreation metal?
As we were writing music one day, our recliners broke and all we were left with was desk chairs. Try writing music in a desk chair, you can’t help BUT write about TPS reports and synergy.
Plus we’re all ugly as hell, so masks help with that.
Which member of PDA cries the most? What triggers his emotional outbursts?
Without a shadow of a doubt, Dashing Kenny Daggers. He’s literally crying in the corner as we do this interview. Who knows what triggers him…Last time we had to yell at him to get out of the play pen at McDonalds and he threw the biggest tantrum of the day. No seriously, the manager even gave him an award for it.
The band is currently in the process of re-recording To Live and Die. Why did PDA decide to redo the album? What will be different about this recording? Is the recording process easier to do the second time around?
We had many different reasons. We had some new songs that we were more fond of than some of the previous recordings, we had a change to our lineup, etc. We’re very excited about the direction that we’re headed with our new music and we’ve all grown so much as musicians.
Have any members ever bestowed the gift of pink eye upon the rest of the band?
Thankfully, no. We’ve managed to keep our disgusting filth to ourselves.
What’s the deal with the Guy Fawkes masks?

PDA wakes up to realize they’re now the cast of Saved By the Bell. Which PDA members become Zack, Slater, Screech, Lisa, and Kelly?
Tommy Mayhem is Kelly because he’s the prettiest.
Dashing Kenny Daggers is Screech because…well does it need explaining?
Rage is Zack because he’s, like, so totally more popular.
James Aggression is Slater because he (I think) owns a football?
And Murder Mike is Lisa because he has more money than anyone else in the band.
What sets your live shows apart from other bands of similar genres? How do the members connect with the crowd?
We’re actually just trying to sell everyone a timeshare in an interesting and fun way that people will remember. We’ve got a powerpoint presentation, pamphlets, group meetings, . We’re just really passionate about our swanky two bedroom, one and a half bathroom, located in sunny Montbello.
Audio Adrenaline wrote a song called “PDA.” Do you feel that they did a fair job of capturing the sentiment of Public Display of Aggression?
We once rescued the lead singer from a ravenous pack of bears. He was so grateful he promised to start a popular band and make a song in memory of our valiant deed.
What has been each band member’s favorite worst decision?
(Collectively) Joining the band.
What are PDA’s plans for 2017? When can fans see you perform next?
Same thing we do every year…Try and take over the world!
