Having returned to their roots with their latest release Exit Wounds, RockRevolt caught up from guitarist Adrian Erlandsson to discuss in very short words the record, Pete Dolving, and return of Marco Aro.
What’s the first thing The Haunted does when starting a new tour? Any strange rituals or habits?
We have a strange ritual of rehearsing the songs together as a band.
Nice. Rehearsing is always a good idea. Best and worst experiences on the road?
Worst experiences vary between lack of sleep for days and inedible food at catering. But bad loaner equipment and freestyle mixing monitor engineers are right up there as well. Best experience is easily a great gig with a good crowd!
I hear ya! How’s the new guitarist Ola working out? Have dynamics changed since reforming?
Ola adds a new edge to the sound of the band! His style is quite different from Anders’. Then again the whole dynamics of the band has changed with Marco and myself coming back.
I understand that Marco was hesitant to rejoin the band? Tell me, what finally bought him around on the idea?
Was he? As far what I knew he loves being in the band again. If there was any hesitation it was possibly to do with not wanting a return to the addictions he was dealing with before when he was in the band.
I’m sorry to bring it up, it may be a sensitive issue– are you guys still in contact with Peter Dolving? How does the band feel towards him?
No contact and please no comments (smile).
Understood! I’m loving the pure aggression on “My Enemy”. Where did the riff and song come from?
Jensen wrote the song as a “We´re back to our aggro thrash roots” kind of song. It was on the Eye of the Storm EP and it works very well as a statement I think.
Tell me about the new record? What sort of Haunted can we expect and can you compare it to anything else you’ve released?
It is by far the heaviest album we have done since One kill Wonder. In many ways it can be seen as a return to our thrash roots. Have you not heard it yet?
Oh I have! I just wanted to get your thoughts on it. How were the recording sessions for Exit Wounds? Any troubles or was it all smooth sailing?
The recording session was divided between a few different studios. The drums were tracked with Tue Madsen in Antfarm studios in Denmark. He also re amped guitars and did the mix. The sessions were very smooth and Tue brought out all the tricks to make this the heaviest album we have ever done.

Are there any songs you listen to by other bands that make you think, “Fuck, I wish I wrote that song”?
You would probably get different answers from different members. But I would say Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest.
What first got you into metal?
My childhood friends older brother played me albums by ACDC and Judas Priest and I was instantly hooked!! Back in Black and Screaming for Vengeance are still in my top ten albums of all time!
What are your top 5 albums of all time?
ACDC’s Back in Black, Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance, Sisters of Mercy’s First Last and Always, Iron Maiden’s Piece of Mind, Portishead’s Roseland Live.
Any parting words for RockRevolt?
Thanks for the support!!
