INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: PRYTI

“I had a story in my head when I wrote Insomnia it’s about losing something, looking back and realising it was great and you can’t get over it. I’ve always wanted to write songs that would punch me in the gut like my favourite bands music and that’s what I wanted Tales of a Melancholic to be. My songs are inspired by a lot of TV shows and films so in a way I created my own soundtrack.” – Pryti

And a punch in the gut her music IS. British singer/songwriter Pryti, came out of the womb ready to rock! Even though pop music ruled her as a youngster, she grew into her metal skin, and is producing some of the most amazing sounds in contemporary metal. Now, on the heels of her debut album Tales of a Melancholic, which releases next month, we are more than ecstatic to have had the chance to sit down for a couple of quick questions with this week’s Indie Band (artist) of the week, PRYTI!

I have seen a lot of you online nowadays. How does it feel to be a rising star?

I never really thought of myself as a rising star but it’s very cool to be called that.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is dark, anthemic and cinematic.

Would you say is hard to be a solo artist in the rock scene?

Yes it is, there are a lot of amazing bands out there but I like a challenge.

Why did you choose to not be in a band, but “be the band”? Have you given it a try before?

I’ve always wanted to be a solo artist and I also had set ideas about the music I wanted to make. And I’m a control freak.

You are the managing director of the label, Welcome To Pariahville, right? Do you find it hard to do that and work on your own music as well?

Yes I am the managing director, and yes it is a balancing act. I pretty much do everything except PR, but I make sure that I set out time to write.

Pryti_-_Album_CoverWhat are your expectations for your label?

When the time is right, I would like to start to grow the label and sign artists.

Considering it grows as much as you expect, would you give up your singing career to take care of it? In this case, which would be your priority?

I wouldn’t give up my singing career. I’d find a way to balance it or hire people to oversee certain things.

Your debut album comes out 16th Feb 2015, Tales of a Melancholic. Seems pretty self-explanatory, but are there any surprises in it not so explained by the name?

Yes! A track called “Angst”. I wanted to write a song that people could headbang to. I call it my happy song.

Will you be touring the album?

Not yet but hopefully soon. I will be trying to sort that out.

What would you say have changed between the Welcome to Pariahville EP and you debut album, Tales of a Melancholic?

Tales of a Melancholic shows how I have evolved as an artist. With the EP I was finding myself as an artist, with the sound etc. When I was writing Tales of a Melancholic I wanted to write more songs that had single vibes, that got to the point quicker, and I wanted to write better riffs.

Is there anything you would like to say to our readers before we finish?

Come listen to my music, find me on Twitter and Facebook and have a great day!
