INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT

tkkEntertaining and offending with their infectious beats since 1987, it’s been a long life for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.  Yet, here they are, still nailing it year after year!  Not only did they bring their very own Thrill Kill Kult flavor to our lips  through their music, but they’ve been doing it their way and under their own label, Sleazebox Records. They are more than just a band; they are a cult of their own devices. Still savoring the tunage from their latest, Spooky Tricks, we remain in awe of the tenacity and perseverance of this kickass band! Because of their steadfast ambition and ability to arouse depravity in the most prudish of folks, we are proud to bestow upon the Thrill Kill Kult the title of Indie Band of the Week.

We had a quick moment to chat the band up for a moment, and this is what they had to say about EVERYTHING!

We know that the original idea for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult was for what sounds like a terrific film, which sadly never was made. If you could make this movie today–who would star in it? Would the premise have changed from the original idea?

Jeez! We’ve gone so far beyond the original film idea, which was basically just a bunch of runaways caught up in a sex crazed satanic cult. We’ve written so many more stories since then within albums. As far as actors, we prefer non-actors. We’re big fans of the Warhol superstar types that pretty much ad lib the script…while high on everything!

I’ve been listening to the new album, and I really like it!  It has more of a flat out funk vibe than the last album.  Do you think this is a trend in the overall industrial music/dance music world, or more of a personal shift?

We’ve been funkin’ out for years! But yes, this is a much different direction than the last LP – which is par for the TKK experience. Each album tends to be 180 degrees different than its predecessor.

Your song and album titles are always evocative—each seems like the soundtrack to a great movie!  If someone were to make one of the albums into a film, which would be best suited?

This new one definitely. And Hit & Run Holiday was written with a story line attached. Actually all of them have their own tale to tell… at least in our heads.

You have an over 25 year history as a band, spanning 19 albums.  What song do you never get tired of playing?

The ones we don’t play all the time! But if we had to choose one of the favs we do play a lot, probably “Do You Fear For Your Child”?

On the inverse, is there a song you do get a little tired of?

“Kooler Than Jesus” I think tops the list. “Sex on Wheelz” next!

Which album do you feel was tipping point for your career? Which album said, “Here is Thrill Kill Kill Kult and they’ve MADE it!”?

Made it? Not sure on that. But if you mean “Here’s TKK”, than it must be the first EP, the first track, “First Cut”.

I see you are gearing up for a live tour, with DJ Toxic Rainbow.  He won the 2012 Beatport.com “Kooler Than Jesus” remix concert—will he be doing any mixes with you on the tour?

Actually he’ll be doing our sound!

Who would you give your right arm to tour with?

  Elvis?

I’ve always loved your live shows—anything exciting planned for this outing?

Just plan to dance your ass off, and have sex when you get home… whether you’ve got someone with you or not!

Mother’s Day is upon us. Please share with us a special Mother’s Day Memory.

My mother came to the original Sextacy Ball with Lords of Acid 15 years ago. It was her first time seeing us, or even going to a concert for that matter. There were blow up dolls and half-naked people everywhere. The show was pretty crazy that night. She kept stepping down into the “pit” to get a closer look and my sister had to keep pulling her back to she wouldn’t get hurt. My mother was 79 at the time! Boy did she get a culture shock that night!

They’ll be on tour this summer, check out their Facebook and website links for more details!
